Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one these days..

Comment on What is Long-Term Memory? by Cathy Bogart https://www.theedadvocate.org/edupedia/content/what-is-long-term-memory/#comment-22 Mon, 16 Jul 2018 21:27:49 +0000 https://www.theedadvocate.org/edupedia/?post_type=content&p=28417#comment-22 LTM is made up of 3 different types of memory – (1)semantic, which is memory for facts and information (“we have neurotransmitters in our brains, such as serotonin and dopamine”) (2) episodic, which is autobiographical (your 21st birthday) and (3) procedural, which is motor memory (riding a bike).
Remembering LTM memories is a reconstructive process. We are not passive recorders of information. Instead, we recreate a memory every time it is remembered. This explains why we can share an experience with someone else, but remember it quite differently. We not only remember the event, but our interpretation of it. This includes the context, as well as the feelings you experienced at the time. It is likely that these other factors are not even part of your conscious experience.

Comment on What is Curriculum Mapping? by Ann Taylor https://www.theedadvocate.org/edupedia/content/what-is-curriculum-mapping/#comment-21 Sat, 14 Jul 2018 15:42:00 +0000 http://www.theedadvocate.org/edupedia/?post_type=content&p=27029#comment-21 My school district has been curriculum mapping for years. We now have developed pacing guides that we use as a diary map. It is a great way to see the entire year and plan accordingly. I use both to develop my weekly lesson plans. We also put in our assessments.

Teachers – and parents – should be spending their time helping children develop the skills they need to be able to learn and to adapt what they are learning to how they learn best. This is not difficult to do but it does take knowledge and an awareness to put priorities on learning rather than teaching. Technology is helping kick start this process and that is great- but we still have a long way to go. The sooner we prioritize learning over teaching the better.
